Mooreville United Methodist Church is fully engulfed in flames, according to Falls County Sheriff Ricky Scaman who had deputies responding to assist fire crews with the blaze on FM 2643 in Chilton.

Officials say they received a call around 10:33 p.m. about a fire.

Pastor Dennis Rejcek said they have no clue how it started.

"We're watching the bell tower burn right now," Rejcek told KWTX.

He said the church had just recently celebrated the building's 150th anniversary.

While the congregation is devastated, they're glad one was hurt, Rejcek said.

No one was around when the fire broke out. The last meeting they had was in fellowship hall around 8:30 p.m.

The church has 200 members.

"This is a strong community church and people are the church and we will rebuild," Rejcek told KWTX.

Agencies from all over the county are on scene including Chilton VFD, Golinda VFD, Lott VFD, Rosebud VFD, Marlin VFD, Falls County Emergency Management, the Falls County Sheriff's Office, and a tanker truck from Lorena VFD was requested.

This is a developing story, more details will be added as they come in.
