HOUSTON, Tex. (KBTX) - The city of Houston held a Celebration of Life event for former President George H.W. Bush.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner hosted the event and invited several world class performers. Tejano music stars La Mafia, country music legend Clay Walker and award winning gospel artist Yolanda Adams were among the many performers.
The Gatlin Brothers, a favorite of the former president, performed, as did the Houston Symphony. Guests in attendance say being there Monday to honor the president was important.
Prayers were read by various faith leaders and there was a moment of silence where audience members were asked to hold up their cellphones as a "point of light." It was a reference to Mr. Bush's famous 1988 speech accepting the Republican nomination for president.
