BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) The Students at Bowen Elementary are excited to introduce a national movement to their school.

Sock-tober was a program created to help those in need. Students will be collecting items that are not commonly donated, like socks, underwear and basic toiletries. The school will be taking donations up until October 25.

All items that are collected will be sent to The Bridge Shelter, Phoebe’s Home, Family Promise and SOS Residential Facility for Men.

This act of kindness is part of the district’s character campaign called Essential 8. Students say they are happy to help the community in any way they can.

“I feel like a lot of people need these things and don’t have them, and it makes me feel good that everybody can be getting what they need,” said Kylah Stewart a student at Bowen Elementary.
