After years in prison, local man opens restaurant in Hearne
D'Wayne Jones started getting in trouble with the law at a young age. He spent 13 years in prison after committing several crimes, most of them violent.
Jones was released from prison five years ago and is now beginning a new chapter by opening a restaurant in Hearne.
In addition to wings, J.U.S.T. Wings serves up loaded nacho fries, mac & cheese balls, and more.
J.U.S.T. stands for juicy, unique, savory, and tasty.
Even more important than the wings is the inspiration and encouragement he is hoping to provide through his new venture.
"It's possible and I am a living example. That's the thing I want people to take from J.U.S.T. Wings. D'Wayne Jones did it despite D'Wayne Jones' past," explained Jones.
He said he has always loved cooking and learned from his grandmother and his mom, but it was prison where he decided to sharpen his culinary skills.
"An old man in prison told me, 'I want you to dream so big that nobody believes you', and so I take that with me," said Jones.
J.U.S.T. Wings is located at 102 S Navasota Street in Hearne.
They are open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. They are closed on Sunday.
