TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY - KBTX is proud to honor outstanding volunteers in our community. Now, the youngest recipients of the local Jefferson Awards ever are heading to the nation's capital to represent the region.

Harper and Maggie Cunningham, who have helped lead their Books and a Blanket group for the past four years have given thousands of books and blankets to children in need, not only received Jefferson Awards, but they were chosen to go to Washington, DC and the national awards ceremony.

The sisters from College Station are now eligible for national honors.

Longtime local volunteers Dave Ruesink, Stephanie Sale and Alma Villarreal were also honored for their work in the community with Jefferson Awards.

This was the thirteenth year KBTX has hosted the ceremony, which was held at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and aired Thursday night on News 3.

More information on the awards can be found at the link attached with this story.
