College Station Kroger location closing

Kroger at Texas Avenue and Southwest Parkway is closing in mid-August.

"Within the past several years, we attempted to increase sales, profitability and store conditions, but despite our best efforts, we were not successful. We have made the very difficult decision to close the store and fuel center in mid-August," said Joy Partain, public affairs for Kroger.

The store plans to have unique sales to sell down inventory.

70 employees worked at the Texas Avenue location and will be offered jobs at other nearby locations.

"We invite customers to shop our two Kroger stores located less than five miles away at 3535 Longmire Drive at Rock Prairie (in College Station) and at 2303 Boonville Rd at N Earl Rudder Fwy (in Bryan). Kroger appreciates the support of the College Station community," said Partain.

The location opened in 1982.
