Local family celebrates life of murdered College Station mother
Thursday will be the first time the family of Theia Flakes will celebrate her birthday without her.
Six months ago, Theia's youngest daughter found her dead in their College Station apartment. Theia's boyfriend, Terry Ratliff was taken into custody the next day and is accused of murdering the mother of three.
Theia's mother, Mader Hedspetch says it hasn't been easy.
"It comes in waves every now and then," said Hedspetch, "I think that I haven't really realized that she is gone and she's not coming back."
Theia's oldest daughter, Mader Flakes, says her life is changed forever.
"It took my soul from me. That was my life. My momma was my best friend, my homie, my diary, my roll dog, my light on a dark day, my smile in a cry. My momma was everything," said Mader.
Although the family is hurting they choose to remember all the joy Theia brought to their lives.
"Her smile, it's one-of-a-kind. It just lights your world up. You see her and she would smile at you," said Mader.
The family invites the public to celebrate Theia's life during a candlelight vigil. It will be held Thursday in Huntsville at Kate Barr Ross Park from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
