COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - Many people are trying to saving money on eye doctor visits by doing exams themselves via smart phone apps.
It's a new trend that can supposedly determine if you're near- or far-sighted, or if you have astigmatism.
College Station optometrist Dr. Lisa Januskey with Precision Eye Care says that patients should beware of the limitations.
"When you come to see an optometrist, we are looking for all kinds of eye health issues," said Januskey. "Issues that may or may not give you symptoms."
Besides, Januskey points out that even the apps themselves warn consumers of the extreme limitations.
"They're only tweaking a prescription you already have, so you still have to see an optometrist at least every two years," said Januskey.
