Man biking across country to bring awareness to ‘K9s for Warriors’

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) -- One man and his best friend are biking across the country with one mission in mind. He wants to help those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

John Tate and his best furry friend Jax are taking a small break from their country-wide trek in College Station on Monday.

“He goes where I go. We’re together,” Tate said.

Tate has been traveling for two months from Oregon. He says he’s making his way to Florida while fighting for those who struggle every day.

“They come home, they’ve risked everything for us, and now they’re stuck,” Tate said.

In April, John and Jax hopped on a bike and set on their mission to raise awareness and money for K9s for Warriors.

“It seems like a no-brainer to me,” Tate said.

K9s for Warriors is an organization that rescues shelter dogs and then trains them into service dogs for service members suffering with military trauma.

“These dogs are literal life savers and family savers,” Tate said.

Tate says they have hit some roadblocks and struggles along their journey, but every hurdle puts life into perspective.

“Nothing that I’m voluntarily going through on this trip compares to what our veterans have gone through,” Tate said.

The duo has already traveled about 2,500 miles. Tate hopes this small gesture helps change the lives of those who sacrifice everything for us.

“They have helped us and it’s time for us to help them,” Tate said.

John and Jax are about halfway to their $30,000 goal. You can donate to the cause at the link in the ‘Related Links’ section. John plans to reach the K9 training school in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida next month.
