Man charged for stealing perfumes, colognes from mall

COLLEGE STATION - A man who police say was trying to steal fragrances from Post Oak Mall is now charged with theft.

On July 13, police say a Loss Prevention employee with JCPenney's at Post Oak Mall saw a man browsing through the fragrance department putting bottles of cologne and perfume in his pockets.

According to police, when that employee tried to confront Michael Powell, 44, the suspect "became nervous" and ran off toward Wolf Pen Creek Park.

The employee told police that while the suspect was running off, he was throwing the bottles of fragrance out of his pockets along the way.

According to the report, police tracked Powell down and found him trying to hide in some bushes.

Police say they identified Powell as the theft suspect and searched him, finding two bottles of Dolce&Gabbana cologne on his person.

Powell is now charged with theft with two or more prior convictions. Police determined he had allegedly tried to steal $740 worth of perfume and cologne.
