Man found guilty of sexual assault in Grimes County

ANDERSON, Tex. (KBTX)- A Grimes County jury this week found a Nacogdoches man guilty of sexual assault after he repeatedly raped an intoxicated woman he knew at a home in January 2018.

The conviction will force Christopher Blake Martin to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

The jury returned with a recommendation of probation for Martin, an option the state law allows due to the fact the suspect has no criminal record. The length of the probation will be determined at a sentencing hearing slated for Tuesday, May 28th.

"Adult sexual assault cases, where the survivor and suspect know each other and consent is the issue, are always tough to prosecute," said Grimes County District Attorney Andria Bender. "Assistant District Attorney Courtney Cain did an outstanding job handling this trial."

"The jury saw through the defense efforts to discredit the victim and found the defendant guilty. Martin is now a convicted rapist and will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life," said Bender.
