BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - if you've never had Buppy Simank's food you're definitely missing out, but it's his dedication to serving people that sets him apart.
Many know him by the name Buppy, but that's not his given name.
"That is a nickname," Buppy said. "I got that name from my dad when I was a little baby so my real name is Sheldon...very few people know that."
Over the years, Simank has provided food for thousands of people...even a few famous people like Reba McIntire, Chuck Norris, and the Houston Oilers.
When he and his wife Jennifer are not cooking, Buppy loves to take things up a notch.
"I love to drag race. I have a '68 Camero that I love to play around with", he said.
One time that passion forced him to hit the brakes.
"I had just been racing with the car club, came home and got in a hurry..got underneath a trailer with the car still on it. The trailer rolled back and the car and trailer crushed me."
Buppy was in the hospital for 30 days.
He lost a kidney, part of his colon, and his some of his vision.
What he didn't lose was his desire for food.
"I feel fortunate because I've always loved to cook even as a kid I remember being 3 or 4 years old...standing on the counter with my mom her teaching me how to cook."
