Names and Faces: Steve Larkin
Christmas movie fans may spot a familiar face on TV this season.
Steve Larkin, a former Bryan High School Assistant Principal turned actor, is a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie star.
Larkin says while he loved teaching kids, his real heart and passion started in community theater.
"My first play was 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'..I played Big Daddy, but I'd never acted before," he said.
At his wife's encouragement, the couple moved to California, which wasn't easy at first.
"The first year I did 11 films and didn't get paid for a single one," Larkin said.
But paying jobs finally rolled in. He's been in several movies including Christmas at Pemberley Manor where he plays a not-your-typical kind of Santa.
"I refuse to do ho-ho-ho. Directors always ask me 'let me hear your ho-ho-ho', and I said no I don't do it. 'But Santa does ho-ho-ho'. No he doesn't he goes 'ha-ha-ha' and they go 'that's it' ...well I know that's it."
And while he was wary at first of being typecast as Santa, Larkin says as long as the writing is good, he now embraces the idea.
"I just get out there and I just have a good time. Santa's has the best job in the world and I just try to pretend like I really do," he said, "But wait a minute..maybe I really do have the best job in the world."
