Part of the track is now gone at the Texas World Speedway property. Things have dramatically changed in recent weeks at the site.
Dirt is turning at the site of Brazos County's newest master planned community called Southern Pointe.
"We have our offsite development infrastructure in place to bring on our first section of lots which is 150 lots which are currently under construction," said Bill Mather, President of the Southern Pointe Community.
"We have probably a lot delivery to the builders will be somewhere around October and hopefully they will be starting very quickly after that putting rooftops up so first part of January 2019 people can start moving into the Southern Pointe Community," he said.
"If our projections are accurate we can have upwards to 400 homes within two years all the way up here," he said.
Homes will be in the $250,000 range. That could mean people are moving here by January 2019. In all, nearly 2,000 homes, parks and businesses are in the works.
"Every one of our lots are sold. We'll be selling only to home builders, the public will purchase homes from them, so they’ll go to Omega, or Style Craft or Kaleo at their model homes," said Mather.
At Southern Pointe, the infrastructure is being put in. A lift station is being installed to handle sewage for the neighborhood. College Station Utilities will be providing services for this area.
'We're just excited that we're getting ready to deliver homes and see rooftops go up," said Mather.
Mather believes it could take 10 to 15 years to fully develop Southern Pointe.
