A deadly crash on Texas Avenue in Bryan was being blocked off by law enforcement when they say a drunk driver crashed into a patrol car.

The crash happened Sunday at 2:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Texas Avenue. Bryan Police say a truck driven by Jose Julian Valdez Martinez, 25 of Bryan, was going too fast in the curve commonly known as "the bend" when he lost control and hit a concrete utility pole. Power lines were broken and fell into the road, which was closed for about three hours.

BPD says Martinez was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected. He died at the scene.

While police were there, they say a patrol car with its lights on blocking Texas Avenue in the 1000 block was hit on the driver's side by a drunk driver. The officer who the patrol car belonged to was outside the vehicle and near the first crash site.

Richard Allen Castle, 40 of Bryan, was arrested for DWI and resisting arrest.
