BRYAN - A new neighborhood and town center is headed to Bryan in 2017 off a strip of University Drive that doesn't even exist yet.
According to Bryan officials, University Drive will be extended east past Boonville Road later this year.
Construction on the Oakmont development will begin in early 2017, according to Adam Development Properties, the company behind this project.
Andrew Ball from Adam Development Properties explained the project plan Thursday at a meeting of the BCS Regional Association of Realtors.
Oakmont will have homes, retail, and restaurants in the 400-acre development, plus walking trails and outdoor space for residents.
The plan is for 800 single-family houses to be built, at a minimum size of 1800-2000 square feet with "competitive" pricing, according to the Adam Development rep.
There will also be a walk-able "main street" area for neighbors or anyone to enjoy.
There could be homes built in Oakmont as early as April or May.
"Kind of that classic Bryan style: big front porches, tons of walking trails," Andrew Ball of Adam Development Properties told News 3. "But also, just areas where people want to hang out in their front yards and know their neighbors. A real small-town, historic feel to it."
Before hearing about the new Oakmont development however, the group of realtors presented a $7,000 check to the local Boys and Girls Club. The group raised the money at their first ever "Hoops 2 Help" 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
