Safe 2 Save is an app that allows drivers to accumulate points for every minute of safe driving and then cash them in at participating area businesses that offer everything from free drinks and ice creams to haircuts and fries.

"I mean I started this idea 2 years ago on my dinner table thinking is this going to work? I don't know,” Safe 2 Save founder and CEO Marci Corry said.

The app, which launched in Corry's home of College Station has since spread to seven other Texas cities including Waco, Temple, Belton, Killeen, Midland-Odessa, and now the greater San Antonio and Houston areas.

"Today we just hit 92,000 users," Corry said.

"I think I'm surprised at the pace in which it's grown."

Corry made a stop at a press conference held Wednesday at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame in Waco to talk about National Night out, an effort with which the app is partnering to help spread the word about safe driving.

Safe 2 Save is also partnering with area student councils at high schools, including those in Central Texas not only to start friendly competitions among peers but also get parents involved, too.

"They're now encouraging their own peers to not text and drive but then we're doing it with parents too because parents are saying 'oh you should let the teenagers know about it' when really they are texting and driving just as much."

You can download the Safe 2 Save app in Apple app store or through Google Play.
