School board accepts early retirement of Tommy Wallis without public comment

KIRBYVILLE, Tex. (KBTX)- The Kirbyville CISD board on Thursday night approved a retirement agreement with Superintendent Dr. Tommy Wallis.

The former Bryan ISD superintendent is set to leave Kirbyville by Friday, May 24.

The vote was 3-1 for the agreement in the special called meeting Thursday night. The board made the vote following a 37-minute executive session.

The school board members and Dr. Wallis refused to comment on the matter and declined to release any details of the retirement.

Wallis’ contract with the district began on April 1, 2017, and runs through June 30, 2020, according to media reports from that area.

After the meeting ended, a reporter from a TV station in Beaumont asked Wallis for comment on his retirement. He replied, "nice try."
