Freedom Festival honors fallen Franklin hero

FRANKLIN, Tex. (KBTX) - The Scott Burgess Memorial Freedom Festival was hosted by the Franklin Chamber of Commerce in Downtown Square, Saturday.

The event started 6 years ago as a Memorial 5K Scholarship Run to honor Franklin's fallen hero, Scott Burgess, who was killed in 2011 in Afghanistan while serving in the U.S. Army.

In 2019, the event has turned from a 5K run to an all-day festival with a car show, corn-hole tournament, crawfish cook-off, memorial service, live music, and a fun-filled kid zone. The organizers say they hope to expand the festival to something even larger next year.
