Sen. Cornyn echoes BCS Chamber's call for stronger national defense

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KBTX) - The Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce's call for a stronger national defense found friendly ears in Senator John Cornyn (R-TX).

Senator Cornyn spoke to the Chamber delegation in Washington, D.C. about the spending deal struck by Congress this week, which includes an extra $15 billion in defense spending, half of what President Donald Trump requested.

As the Chamber makes its rounds in the nation's capitol, part of its agenda is to advocate for consistent funding for the military to make it the "strongest in the world."

Sen. Cornyn says, this $15 billion is a step in the right direction.
"I think the one job that only the federal government can do is maintain the peace and defend the nation," said Sen. Cornyn. "Whether it's North Korea, whether it's Russia, whether it's Iran, or it's the threat of terrorism, all these are new and novel and different and challenging threats to the country that can only be met by a strong military."
