The Brazos Valley African American Museum invited residents to explore a special exhibit provided by the Smithsonian.

A new exhibit called "Hometown Teams" is now on display at the Brazos Valley African American Museum located in Downtown Bryan. "Hometown Team" is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and the Texas State Historical Association.

The exhibition covers themes like The Home Team, Our American Spirit and At Every Age; Sports in Commerce, Sports in Culture and many more.

"This exhibit is special because we are one of seven museums to show it, so it's a really neat opportunity for us," said Crystal Carter, the Brazos Valley African American Museum Director.

The program was made possible by funds given through Hotel Tax Revenue as well as the City of College Station and City of Bryan through the Arts Council.

"This exhibit talks about how sports influences our lives and so we have today our grand opening tailgate and we are excited to have the community come see this Smithsonian that talks about sports," said Carter.

Bryan High cheerleaders came out to the grand opening to show support of our hometown team, the Bryan Vikings.

The exhibit is open until June 9th during regular operation hours.
