Special Olympics Equestrian competition kicks off in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - Over 140 athletes are competing at the Special Olympics Equestrian Competition this weekend.

They've come from all over the state and this is the annual state horse show. The riders competed and practiced all year long. Volunteers say these athletes compete just like everybody else.

“The events are all the same. They're adapted a little bit for people's abilities, and whatever the rider's ability, that's the level they compete at,” said Karen Abbott with Special Olympics Texas.

The competition begins Friday night and goes through the weekend. Admission is free at the Brazos County Expo.
