State lawmakers convene in Austin for 86th Legislature

AUSTIN, Tex. (KBTX) - The 86th Texas legislative session has begun, with hundreds of lawmakers descending upon the capitol in Austin to address the state’s issues.

For the next 140 days, many legislators say the top priority is passing a budget. Beyond that key item, lawmakers from the Brazos Valley cite border security, Child Protective Services, and school finance as focus issues for this year.
