BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - State Representative Kyle Kacal, the Republican from District 12, has filed a bill in Austin asking the state to create another district court in Brazos County. County officials say it’s getting harder to manage growth in the area and to conduct trials.
According to 361st District Judge Steve Smith, all three district judges believe there is a need for another district court. Other county workers say the workload backs up and can be overwhelming.
“What we have right now is efficient and we’re making it work. Just keeping up with the paperwork, that’s the only challenge that we face,” said newly sworn in Brazos County District Clerk Gabriel Garcia.
Garcia says he can see the need for a new court in the future.
