Proud parents that paved the way: The Kolek story

Omaha Neb. (KBTX) - For most, the closest they'll get to the hallowed playing field of the College World Series is a seat in the bleachers.

However, for a select few, this playing field becomes a platform for them to shine.

"They started this awful young, and they just play the game," said James Kolek, who's son Stephen pitches for the Aggies.

Kolek and his wife Brenda will be in the bleachers, but their son Stephen will not. The hard throwing righty will be on that platform Tuesday, starting on the mound for the Aggies in the College World Series.

"All you ever think about is just how lucky we are to be here," Kolek said.

But it wasn't luck that got them here. The Kolek's, like countless other parents, served as the supporting cast for their son...shaping him and sacrificing for him...something that hasn't been lost on Stephen.

"Its amazing, for my dad and my mom to be able to come up here, to be able to support me and be able to experience all of it, and be here to enjoy it, is just unreal," said Stephen Kolek.

And while the TCU Horned Frogs will present one of the toughest challenges of the year for Stephen and the Aggies, perhaps his parents say it best.

"If everything was easy, you would just take it all nonchalant after awhile, but this has been such a special journey," Kolek said.

Afterall...this is Omaha.
