Suspect arrested for driving through crowd outside Bryan bar

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - Bryan Police say they have a suspect in custody after five people were run down by a vehicle in front of a bar early Saturday morning.

Authorities say Joe Ruiz, 33, was arrested for the crime Monday.

Police say Ruiz was at a bar in the 400 block of N. Bryan Avenue around 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to officers, Ruiz got into a fight with a woman then her boyfriend tried to break it up. That's when he left and got into his car.

As Ruiz drove off, he ran into two women, including the woman he fought. Both of the women were thrown to the ground and knocked unconscious. One of them was run over by the rear end of the vehicle as well.

Police say a total of five people were hit during the assault.

The two women were taken to the hospital. One had a broken nose and the other had cuts on her scalp.

Ruiz is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
