Tech company opens new facility; brings new jobs
A globally recognized company has been sitting in our backyard for quite some time. On Tuesday, the technology company, ViaSat, unveiled a new state of the art facility that plans to bring more jobs to the area.
“We're just really excited to open this building for all of our employees and grow our presence here in Bryan/College Station,” said Cody Catalena, ViaSat General Manager.
The global internet service provider has been in business for more than 30 years and has about 4,000 employees nationwide. Locally their nearly 200 employees have been split between four different buildings.
“I think this is a first of its kind facility for the area,” said Catalena. “It’s a true corporate campus environment.”
Along with flexible workspaces, the 90,000 plus square foot facility has a basketball court, green space, golf course and cafés.
“It comes back to that work-life play balance,” said Catalena. “We want our folks to work hard but we also want them to play hard as well.”
Catalena says the larger space means more job opportunities in the BCS area, something Chamber of Commerce President Glen Brewer says is necessary.
“They’ll hire some locally but they’ll be bringing in from all over the state and all over the nation,” said Brewer. “That’s just more income to be spent here, that’s more taxes to be paid to help us out with our schools and our local government and it helps all of us as our business community is expanding.”
The new facility can hold an additional 100 employees. Officials say there are job opportunities in every field from software development to customer service.
