BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - Here's hoping everyone had a nice 4th of July celebration. Some say we only have bad news. That just isn't true, though some days, it can seem like it. Fact is when called out on that, I check on it, and more than not, there is much more good news than people realize, but some just don't see it. We got this positive note, at least – mostly positive:
"I would like to say thank you for a story I saw on the KBTX web site this morning. Just a little blurb about a local pizza shop manager who went way and beyond to help a visiting patron find a lot of money that was accidentally thrown in the trash. Now I understand that in less than 30 minutes it is your job to tell us of murder, mayhem, betrayal, and all manner of injustice at home and abroad. Along with a bit about the weather and scores from the game. We tune in because these are important things to know. The pizza manager story isn't any of those. But isn't important, too? "No news is good news" doesn't mean all news is bad. I just think hearing some good news is a right response."
Unfortunately, yes, there are crimes that make the news. But throughout our 60-year history, we do take time to accentuate the positive. From time to time on various social media platforms, we get called out by viewers about these feel good stories with comments like: "why is this news?" "KBTX is a pitiful excuse for news," and all those happy kinds of things. When there is something bad, we'll report it, but we aren't Houston. Though, yes, with the exponential growth of this region, crime is up or at least – more frequently occurring. Fortunately, there is still time to tell the good side of the news, and we're grateful for the comment.
Since the 4th of July is still fresh on everyone's mind, each year at this time for a Throwback Thursday, I like to run a promo from the original "This is Your news" series, featuring a lot of neighborhood 4th of July themed celebrations.

It was indeed a much simpler time – and yes, with it's own set of issues, but – somehow, we handled controversy so much better back then.
