Thursday was weed appreciation day and on Friday, Jayla Fry, with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, did her best to discuss the benefits of weeds.

"This goes against my education and my upbringing but there actually are some great benefits to some of these plants," Fry said.

Among those benefits, many weeds are edible and can be a food source to people and animals. They can have colorful flowers that make gardens look pretty and some say they are can be a soil additive once they break down and are added to compost.

"Weeds have a place too," Fry said. "They're a plant so I can't completely hate them but most of the time I am trying to get them out of my landscape beds or vegetable garden or yard."
