Work continues on a new highway connecting the Brazos Valley to Houston.

TxDOT tells us crews plan to start clearing right of way in Grimes County next month or in November.

The Highway 249 extension project will span 24 miles from Pinehurst to Highway 105 outside Navasota. The road has been nicknamed, "The Aggie Expressway."

Construction is already under way for the Montgomery County portion of the project.

A 10 mile stretch of the project will be a two lane, non-tolled road in Grimes County while the rest of the highway will have tolls.

TxDOT believes the highway should be completed in early 2022.
