The sport of wrestling is a bond for Bryan family

Students on the Bryan High School wrestling team are preparing for the State tournament this weekend, including senior Ja'Marcus Thomas.
"My brother got into it when he was a freshman and then continued on through college, so I was around it for a long time and decided to try it out and it's just fun competing," said Thomas.
Heading into the state tournament, he has a 59-2 record and is ranked second in his division.
"I wish I didn't lose. I mean, I didn't want to lose, so those numbers don't feel good to me. But, making it to the second and moving up a division I mean that felt pretty good. It doesn't mean much going into the state tournament because anybody can win," said Thomas.
His determination also helped him out 15 years ago. In 2004, Ja'Marcus was left on a daycare van. KBTX covered the story and interviewed his mom.
It's an incident Thomas remembers most of the details on to this day.
"I remember waking up. I don't remember how I got out of the van, but I remember getting out somehow and I remember going next door. I squeezed through a gate and banged on a door, but no one lived there. I remember the fire department taking me in."
A lot has changed for Thomas since 2004. The sport of wrestling has become a family bond. His sister, Jenny, is a sophomore on the team and his brother, Victor, is now the assistant coach.
"I actually got into it because I was watching them all the time," said Jenny.
"It started out pretty tough. There was a lot of pressure at first knowing they were my brother and sister, but eventually over time or extended time I think it's just been fun," said Victor.
They all agree they have a pretty similar style of wrestling, but when it comes to who's the best?
"Me, hands down," said older brother Victor. "They've gotten everything they know, so far, from me."
The state wrestling tournament begins on Friday. Thomas says he plans to win a state title. Jenny will also be competing and hopes to be on the podium as well.
