Your Vote Counts: District 17 candidate George Hindman

BRYAN, Tex (KBTX)- George Hindman is one of 11 Republicans running to replace Representative Bill Flores as District 17’s Congressional Representative.

Hindman is from Pflugerville, Texas. He is married and has two kids.

Hindman has an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and a graduate degree from the University of Texas. He currently worked at NASA teaching astronauts and mission controllers how to use the space shuttle's computers and navagation systems.

Hindman participated in the Congressional Candidate Forum hosted by KBTX and KWTX on Jan. 25 held at Texas A&M University’s Rudder Theatre.

KBTX has reached out with additional questions from viewers. Hindman has not responded at this time.

On the Issues:

Immigration: Hindman wants to prioritize legal immigration to promote skilled entrepreneurs to enter the U.S. he also believes that enforcing existing laws and border security are the starting points for addressing the current situation.

"The humanitarian aspect of immigration can't be taken away from the fact that national security is intertwined with immigration. We must secure the border," said Hindman at the Candidate Forum on Jan. 25.

Fiscal Responsibility: Hindman believes the only way Washington will live within its means is a balanced budget amendment.

Healthcare: Hindmand wants to repeal Obamacare and replace it with free-market reforms. He also wants to remove regulations that prevent competition.

"We need to do is repeal Obamacare and all the regulations that are in the ACA," said Hindman. "They have driven up the cost of healthcare."

Constitutional Rights: Hindman is committed to preserving the right to purchase, possess and use firearms. He also believes the nation was built on religious freedom.
