Your Vote Counts: District 17 candidate Scott Bland

By  |

BRYAN, Tex (KBTX)- Scott Bland is one of 11 Republicans running to replace Representative Bill Flores as District 17’s Congressional Representative.

Bland is from Waco, Texas. A graduate from Baylor University, he was previously a Special Agent in the United States Secret Service.

Married with two children, he currently owns Jim Bland Construction in Waco.

Bland participated in the Congressional Candidate Forum hosted by KBTX and KWTX on Jan. 25 held at Texas A&M University’s Rudder Theatre.

KBTX has reached out with additional questions from viewers. Bland has not responded at this time.

On the Issues:

Immigration: Bland is in favor of E-Verify as well as a 10-month guest worker program.

"The number one thing we have to do is seal the border, but that is only half the solution," said Bland at the Candidate Forum on Jan 25. "Once we seal the border, we have now trapped 25 million illegal aliens in this country, and we are not going to deport them."

Healthcare: Bland believes the mandate of Obamacare was unconstitutional. He wants to do a repeal and replace but not completely. He wants to continue to provide care for preexisting conditions as well as allow 26-year-olds to maintain coverage.

"Obamacare absolutely needs to be repealed, it is unconstitutional. The mandate alone is reason enough to repeal Obamacare," said Bland.

Tax Reform: Bland is in favor of a flat tax or a fair tax. He wants to eliminate every deduction with the exception of charitable giving.
