Bratlien, Marcus Jason

Marcus Jason Bratlien, 45, passed away July 6 at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 13 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with Rev. Joe Contreras officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery of College Station. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Marcus was born November 30, 1972 at St. Elizabeth Community Health Center in Lincoln, Nebraska to Maynard and Arlene Bratlien. At that time Maynard and Arlene were employed by the local K-12 school systems of Gresham and Stromsburg, Nebraska respectively.

Marcus spent his kindergarten and first-grade school year in Gresham, Nebraska. In1980 the family moved to College Station, Texas where Marcus completed his elementary and secondary education, graduating from high school in 1991. He pursued post-secondary education at Blinn College in Bryan and Texas A&M University –Galveston, completing a course in Paralegal Certification.

Marcus met his wife Carolina DeLeon in the mid-1990s, and they were married in 2001. Over the years, Marcus was employed at Whataburger, Walmart Photo, Schlumberger Inc. and various other positions in the petroleum industry. For the last several years and at the time of his death, he was employed as a truck driver for Sanderson Farms, Inc.

Marcus is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Willis Dewey; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bratlien; and his mother, V. Arlene Bratlien.

He is survived by his wife, Carolina Bratlien; his brother, Christopher Bratlien; his father, Maynard Bratlien and step-mother, DeeAnn Bratlien; his mother-in-law, and father-in-law, Beda and Francisco DeLeon; niece, Azul, who he considered his own child; as well as brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Any memorial donations made in Marcus's name may be given to Catholic Charities of Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston for Immigration Rights, 2615 Fannin Street, Houston, Texas 77002.
