5 vs 6 as Lufkin comes to Cougar Field to battle College Station

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- Friday night first place in District 8-5A Division I will be decided in a top 10 showdown between 5th ranked Lufkin and 6th ranked College Station over at Cougar Field.

The Cougars come into this game undefeated and riding an 18 game winning streak including last week's 49-7 win over Waller.

Head Coach Steve Huff has been impressed with his team's last couple of games where they have outscored their opponents 119 to 7.

While the Cougs are playing with confidence, they know they battle a Lufkin team Friday that has lots of speed and can capitalize on mistakes.

"The one thing you look at is speed all over the field. Offensively the wide receivers can get behind you at anytime. The running back is very, very, fast. The quarterback is very capable of taking it down and running it, but probably the one thing that caught my eye the most is the defensive line. All three of those kids are committed 'D-1'. So you have three kids up front who can really go and that allows you to play a little different behind them so they are very aggressive on both sides of the ball and again very fast," said Huff.

Lufkin dropped down from 6A to 5A this season and is a team some had picked as their pre-season favorite to win the Class 5A Division 1 State Championship.

Friday's game will kick off at 7:30 at Cougar Field.
