COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Soccer announced their spring slate Friday, featuring five playing dates, including four scheduled for Ellis Field in the coming weeks.
“Aggie fans probably view our non-traditional spring season as an off-season with a few home friendly exhibition matches,” head coach G Guerrieri said. “But this is a very important time in the soccer calendar of Aggie players and coaches. This spring is a great semester of personal growth and development for our players, and allows our coaches the opportunity to work on details and ideas that will help us in the fall championship segment of the year when we’re competing for SEC and NCAA titles."
The spring season kicks off Friday, February 15 when the Aggies host the Lamar Cardinals for a 7 p.m. contest. The following Friday (Feb. 22), Texas A&M welcomes the Baylor Bears to Ellis Field for a 7:30 p.m. match.
The Maroon & White make their lone spring road trip Saturday, March 2 when travel to Fort Worth for a 1 p.m. scrimmage against the TCU Horned Frogs.
"I’m pleased with the challenges our opponents will pose this spring,” head coach G Guerrieri said. “All of the college teams on our schedule are potential NCAA Tournament foes in November.
After returning from spring break, the Aggies host the always-anticipated exhibition match against the Houston Dash of the NWSL. Texas A&M welcomes the pros to town Saturday, March 23 at 5 p.m.
“The match against the Dash gives our players a glimpse of the standards and demands in the NWSL and gives soccer fans in the Brazos Valley a chance to become familiar with the only pro women’s team in Texas and hopefully embrace them as fans.”
The spring season wraps up Sunday, Feb. 24 when the Aggies host a three-team, round-robin event with Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi traveling to College Station.
"I'm looking forward to seeing our team grow and take on some tough exhibition opponents," Guerrieri said. "The spring will bring a variety of challenges. There will be three opponents who participated in the recent NCAA tournament, an opponent who will be playing in the upcoming U20 Women's World Cup and an opponent who plays in the professional ranks with the NWSL. 2018 can be another great year for Aggie soccer, and I'm excited about introducing a taste to our fans this spring."
All spring soccer matches are free to the public.
Texas A&M wrapped up the season with a 17-5-1 mark. The Maroon & White earned a bid to their 24th consecutive NCAA Championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the 15th time in school annals.
