Aggie softball to play two against Texas Southern Tuesday

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Softball looks to continue its five-game winning streak as the Aggies host Texas Southern for a Tuesday doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Davis Diamond.

Game one can be seen on SEC Network with Eric Frede (play-by-play) and Madison Shipman (color) on the call. Game two is available for viewing on SEC Network +. Texas A&M (22-13, 2-7 SEC) is coming off a sweep of BYU in a two-game series Friday and Saturday. Kendall Potts earned two complete-game victories, including one shutout, holding the Cougars to nine hits and two runs total. Payton McBride hit her second career home run in the Aggies’ 3-2 victory Friday.

The Aggies are led offensively by Kelbi Fortenberry and McBride, who top the team with .381 and .358 batting averages, respectively. Riley Sartain leads the team in multiple offensive categories, including home runs (6), walks (17) and slugging percentage (.607) and is tied for the team lead in total bases (54) and doubles (7).

In the circle, Potts paces the pitching staff with nine wins and a 3.35 ERA. McBride has tallied eight victories as Kayla Poynter has added three and Hannah Mayo has recorded two.

Texas Southern (9-19, 7-0 SWAC) is led offensively by Marissa Padron, who tops the team with a .385 average and has added two home runs, seven doubles and 11 RBI. Naomi Reyes holds 3-5 ledger in the circle with a 2.85 ERA. Destiny Ricks has tallied three wins while Chelsea Baxter has recorded two for the Tigers.

Wednesday's doubleheader marks the third and fourth time Texas A&M and Texas Southern have met on the diamond with the Aggies holding a 2-0 record. The two teams previously met at the 2016 NCAA College Station Regional in which Texas A&M won 14-0.
