MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Texas A&M men's golf team finished eighth at the General Hackler Championship, played at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club (par72/7,233yards). The Aggies shot 10-over 874 (294-286-294) to remain in the same position through the final round on Tuesday morning.

"The guys fought hard today, we just had a terrible finish. We were playing pretty decent golf going into the 18th hole and we just gave a lot of shots back," said head coach J.T. Higgins. "The damage was done yesterday, we kind of played our way out of it. This result isn't up to our standards but we are going to do the only thing we know how to do and that's get back to work. We are going to start close to the hole and work our way out, make sure our short game and wedge game are sharp and go from there. The guys are willing to work hard and have great attitudes, so we are going to go to work and get ready to head back out to Florida."

Freshman Sam Bennett made a big jump in the third round to lead the Aggies as he finished tied for 22nd, shooting 1-over. Junior Dan Erickson and senior Chandler Phillips finished tied for 36th and 41st as they shot 4- and 5-over, respectively.

A&M will be back in action on Sunday, March 17 as the team travels to Stuart, Florida for the Valspar Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Houston. The invitational will run through Tuesday, March 19.
