Aggies host unbeaten Alabama

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Softball welcomes fourth-ranked Alabama to the friendly confines of Davis Diamond for a three-game series beginning Friday.

Friday’s contest is slated to begin at 6 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday’s games scheduled for 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. All three games can be seen on SEC Network + with Chelsea Reber and Tori Vidales on the call.

The Aggies (17-11, 1-5 SEC) are coming off a 15-inning battle against SFA Wednesday night in which Texas A&M came out on top as Kelly Martinez blasted a two-out, two-run homer.

Kayla Poynter and Kendall Potts combined to throw the Maroon & White's fifth shutout of the season. Poynter threw the first six innings of the game, allowing just five hits and two walks with a strikeout. Potts earned the win after fanning a career-high nine while only giving up four hits in nine innings of work.

For the season, the Aggies are led offensively by Kelbi Fortenberry and Riley Sartain, who top the team with .420 and .338 batting averages, respectively. Sartain leads the team in multiple offensive categories, including home runs (6), walks (13), doubles (7), total bases (50) and slugging percentage (.676).

In the circle, Payton McBride paces the pitching staff with seven wins. Potts has tallied five wins as Poynter has added three and Hannah Mayo has recorded two.

Alabama enters the weekend as the lone unbeaten team in NCAA Division I Softball at 31-0 (3-0 SEC). The Crimson Tide are led by Bailey Hemphill, who is batting .348 with 13 home runs and 44 RBI. Kaylee Tow tops the team with a .373 average and 32 walks. Montana Fouts and Sarah Cornell have each recorded 11 wins in the circle.
