COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Texas A&M softball team overpowered McLennan, 24-8, in a nine-inning exhibition Thursday night at Davis Diamond.
Eight Aggies drove in two runs apiece, and six members of Texas A&M’s offense recorded a multi-hit game. Kelbi Fortenberry, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, and Blake-Ann Fritsch, who went 3-for-3 with two RBI, led the Maroon & White at the plate.
The Aggies and Highlassies went back-and-forth in the first three innings until Texas A&M exploded for six runs in the fourth, highlighted by Sarah Hudek and Baylee Klinger’s back-to-back RBI doubles.
The Aggies were in full force in the final three innings of the game, plating 14 runs and outhit McLennan, 12-3.
Texas A&M pitcher Hannah Mayo earned her first victory of the fall after allowing five earned runs on 11 hits while striking out four in five innings of work. Kayla Poynter closed out the game in the circle and struck out two in four innings of relief.

T3 | Olivia Lantigua and Lauren Aleman recorded back-to-back singles and each scored on singles from Kaitlin Richards and Stephanie Wideman, respectively, to give the Highlassies the lead. MCC 3, A&M 1
B3 | After the Aggies quickly loaded the bases, Moreno singled to left to score Fortenberry before Hudek touched home on a sacrifice fly from Payton McBride. Klingler stole home to give the Aggies the lead. A&M 4, MCC 3
T4 | McLennan rallied in the fourth, scoring three runs on five hits. Rebeca Fajardo led off the inning with a single in the gap in right and Kaelin Morkisch bunted for a hit shortly after. A Genisa Marrero-Carter single up the middle plated Fajardo. Lantigua recorded a base hit and Morkisch touched home after taking advantage of a throwing error. Marrero-Carter scored on an Aleman single through the left side, extending the Highlassies’ lead to 6-4. MCC 6, A&M 4
B4 | Kayla Poynter drew a leadoff walk, Morgan Smith singled up the middle and Kayla Garcia earned a walk to load the bases. Ashlynn Walls drew a walk with the bases full of Aggies to score Kylie George, who pinch ran for Poynter. A single down the right field line and back-to-back doubles from Hudek and Klingler allowed Morgan Smith, Garcia and Fortenberry to score. A&M 10, MCC 6
T6 | Morkisch walked and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Arianna Perales. A&M 10, MCC 7
B6 | Fortenberry led off the inning with a homer to right before Riley Sartain recorded an infield single and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Moreno. A&M 12, MCC 7
B7 | George drew a walk to start the inning before back-to-back singles from Madi Jatzlau and Meagan Smith loaded the bases. An Abby Smith sacrifice fly scored George before Blake-Ann Fritsch recorded an infield single, plating Dani Elder. Elder reached base on a walk, which allowed Jatzlau to touch home before Morgan Smith blasted a two-RBI single up the middle, plating Fritsch and Meagan Smith. A sacrifice fly from Sartain scored Elder and Morgan Smith touched home on an error by the shortstop. A&M 18, MCC 7
B8 | Fritsch and Elder recorded back-to-back infield singles before an Abby Smith double plated Fritsch and a sacrifice fly from George allowed Elder to score. Abby Smith took advantage of a fielding and throwing error by the Highlassies’ defense to score. Elder batted for the second time in the inning and recorded another infield single to drive in Sartain, who reached base on a walk. A single through the left side by Fritsch scored Elder and Jatzlau. T9 | McLennan tacked on an unearned run as Perales singled up the middle and scored on a throwing error by the Aggies. A&M 24, MCC 8
