Bearkats back in FCS semifinals after holding off Kennesaw State

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KBTX) -- Sam Houston State jumped out to a big first half lead and held off a Kennesaw State rally to advance in the FCS playoffs Saturday night.

The Bearkats won 34-27 to stay perfect all-time in FCS playoff games at Bowers Stadium. They are in the semifinals for the fifth time since 2011.

Sam Houston State will travel to FCS power North Dakota State for a semifinal matchup Friday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. James Madison and South Dakota State meet in the other semifinal on Saturday.

With Sam Houston State up seven, All-American P.J. Hall tackled the Owls Ezra Naylor on a 4th and 5 reverse run at the Bearkats 15-yard line with 1:24 to play. The Bearkats were able to run out the clock on the win from there.

The Owls scored first, but saw the Bearkats score the next 24 points to lead 24-7 late in the first half and 24-10 at halftime.

Jeremiah Briscoe threw for 316 yards and three touchdown passes, two to Yedidiah Louis as part of a 9 reception, 123 yard day. Nathan Stewart caught the Kats other touchdown pass on a 61-yard strike in the first quarter.
