Bearkats take game one from Incarnate Word

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 10-4, to Sam Houston State on Friday night at Don Sanders Baseball Stadium in game one of the three-game series.

Sean Arnold extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Lee Thomas had a 2-for-4 outing with two RBI and a double, while Antonio Valdez went 2-for-4 with a run.
Luke Taggart suffered the loss, throwing three strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched.

The Bearkats opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, plating four runs to take a 4-0 lead. SHSU scattered five more runs across the third and fourth frames, extending its advantage to 9-0.

In the top of the sixth, Sean Arnold scored on a Ryan Flores single to left center and the Cardinals made the score 9-1. The Bearkats added another run in the bottom of the frame to give them a 10-1 advantage after six innings.

The Cardinals scored three more runs in the top of the eighth -- including a Lee Thomas two-RBI double and a Ridge Rogers RBI ground out -- but the rally fell short and the Bearkats secured the 10-4 victory.

The Cardinals continue their three-game conference series against Sam Houston State on Saturday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CT) at Don Sanders Baseball Stadium.
