Bryan/College Station, TX - May 30, 2019 - After one season with the Bombers, James Dillard returns to the Brazos Valley Bombers as the Associate Head Coach as announced by Manager Brian Nelson.
In Dillard’s first season with the Bombers, he worked primarily with the pitching staff helping the Bombers finish near the top of every significant Texas Collegiate League pitching statistic. This included a 3.04 ERA with over 500 strikeouts while only giving up 204 walks.
Coach Dillard brings valuable experience to the Bombers as the head baseball coach for Bryan High School. Dillard previously coached in the TCL with the Woodland Strykers. “Coach Dillard's experience as a Head Coach at multiple levels has been crucial to the successful operations of our baseball program,” said Nelson. “I could not manage this team effectively the way I want without Coach Dillard on this staff.”
When asked about being named Associate Head Coach, Dillard had this to say: “I am eager to work beside Coach Nelson and Coach [Chase] Sanford to help bring back a TCL Championship to the Brazos Valley. I’m grateful for the Bombers organization for providing this great opportunity.”
The team hopes to bounce back from last year’s early postseason exit, and Dillard’s expanded role contributes to the championship-bound culture in the Brazos Valley.
“Continuity within the coaching staff is key to maintaining the progress we made last season, and bringing back Coach Dillard is a huge part of that,” said Nelson. “His success with the pitching staff last season proved his value to this team and we wanted to recognize that.”
