Brazos Valley with pair of state title hopes after day one of UIL State Tennis Tournament wraps up

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- A&M Consolidated's Joey Tindall and Henning Schade along with Rockdale's Reyna Gonzales and Devon Whitsel will be battling for state tennis championships Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center as the UIL State Tennis Tournament wraps up.

Tindall and Schade posted a 6-1, 6-1 win in their quarterfinal match over Thane Johannsen and Henry Lovelace of Dripping Springs.

The Consolidated doubles duo, who made their first trip to the state tournament a year ago, then beat Drew Norman and David Stephens of Canyon Randall 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to Friday's 10 A.M. championship match where they will take on Jackson Harwell and Tauber Short of Amarillo High.

In the 3A Mix Doubles bracket. Rockdale's Devon Whitsel and Reyna Gonzales, made quick work of Baird McDaniel and Ashlee Wyatt of White Oak 6-1, 6-1.

Then in the semifinals Whitsel and Gonzales, the reigning State Champions, posted another 6-1, 6-1 win over Barbara Cosper and Jake Billo of Goliad.

The Rockdale duo will take on Austin Fairchild and Caryle Pfiester of Ingram Moore at noon in the 3A Mix Doubles Championship Match looking to repeat.

Franklin's Ali May won her quarterfinal match in 3A Girls' Singles 6-1, 6-0, but lost in the quarterfinals to Sara Humpal of Corpus Christi London 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-3.

Leon's Caden Cox lost his 2A Boys' Singles Quarterfinals Match to Jaedon Seagler of Gruver 6-2, 6-2. While Centerville's Ana Lima and Taylor Morgan dropped their 2A Girls' Doubles Quarterfinals Match to Sabrina Mercier and TyAnn Slaughter of Wink 6-2, 6-2.
