Bryan High runner to compete in Australia

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX)- A Bryan High School cross country runner will be taking a 13,000 mile trip this summer to Australia.

Brendan Mack has been on the Bryan cross country team for three years. His hard work earned him the title of team captain.

"I think it's really cool that I've been a captain for two years and now I have my letter man in cross country. Just to lead a team it feels like being a part of something important," said Mack.

Now, he'll have a chance to be a part of something bigger. Mack was invited to the Down Under Sports Tournament in Australia.

"When we read over it it showed like yea you're going to be able to run in Australia and it's going to be like a ten day trip and two of the days are going to be meets and the rest is going to be enjoying stuff, sight seeing, and like taking pictures of kangaroos and koalas and I just that that was so cool. I was really shocked. I was so shocked I didn't know what to say," said Mack.

Mack will join other runners from Texas to represent our state in the land down under. He's excited to not only compete but experience a different culture.

"Honestly, I'm just really excited. Normally when I'm running a race I'm like wow I'm nervous and then once you hit that point where you're about to start you're like I'm here it's time to go let's get excited. And since I get to run with kids all across the state and all across the world I think it's really amazing," said Mack.

Mack will head to Australia in June. He is fundraising and selling T-shirts for the trip. You can contact Down Under Sports at 435-753-4732.
