BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- We are on to round three of the Texas high school football playoffs and nine area teams are still in the mix.
One is the Buffalo Bison, in the third round for the first time in program history after beating Jacksboro 56-28 in the area round last week.
The Bison have stepped their football game up over the past few seasons, winning 22 of their last 24 games and all 12 so far in 2018.
Year one under head coach Brandon Houston has been perfect so far, and they want to keep things rolling Friday when they battle Holliday from up near Wichita Falls.
Houston said, "Some years you're going to have better years than others and this one of those special seasons and we're really enjoying it. Like I tell people, I'm just trying to hang on to that Buffalo's tail and go along for the ride."
Quarterback Colton Green is glad to be a part of turning the Buffalo program around. "It's been great to build a foundation for here on out because it's about time Buffalo had a team step up and I'm glad it's us."
Fullback and linebacker Hector Dominguez added, "It's a great thing. We have bragging rights for classes before. Everything is perfect."
Holliday will be a big test on Friday. The Eagles are an 11-1 squad that knocked previously unbeaten Clifton out of the playoffs last week.
Houston said, "They are a very, very good defensive ball club. Very aggressive and athletic. Well coached. We've been spending a lot of time over the weekend trying to find some weak links and where to attack and I've still got a lot of blanks on my play sheet over here. So it's going to be a big, big task for the Buffalo Bison this week."
The Bison and Holliday Eagles meet Friday night at 7:30 at the Birdville ISD Athletics Complex in the Metroplex.
