Burton to battle Falls City in regional championship game Thursday at Alamodome

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The Burton Panthers (11-2) will attempt to do something that no team has been able to do this year against Falls City (13-0) and that is beat the Beavers.

Burton is riding a 10 game winning streak going into their Class 2A regional championship game.

Burton is coming off a 47-7 win over Granger. Falls City stayed unbeaten on the year following last week's 50-0 win over Woodsboro.

Now this will be the fourth year in a row that Burton has faced Falls City in the playoffs.

A year ago the Panthers got a 362 yard, eight touchdown performance from Dee Winters in a 69-45 shootout that propelled Burton into the state semifinals.

"Being in the playoffs is always a blessing. You know it's kind of become routine but we're always grateful for the opportunity we have and we're going to play our hearts out no matter what," said Burton quarterback/linebacker Caleb Harmel.

"It's always good when you can make it past the first round of the playoffs and go in the playoffs in general and for us to be able to do that has been a true blessing for us to be able to do that. It's been a true blessing," adds Burton wide receiver/defensive back Dee Winters.

"It's super special whenever you can play this late into the season. It's just a super exciting time not only for the kids but for the fans and the community. We've been really fortunate here the past few years to keep playing and be a part of this playoff season in December," concluded Burton Head Football Coach Jason Hodde.

Thursday's game will kick off at 7pm at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
