Cavalry in seventh heaven

Cavalry took the lead through striker Kyle Edwards as he picked up the ball outside the penalty area and beat two Texas United defenders before powerfully firing across goalkeeper Roel Martinez and into the far corner.

Cavalry then had multiple opportunities to extend their lead. Firstly, Jacob Evans beat his marker out wide before picking out Mason Schuster in the penalty area, but the winger fired wide of the upright from close range! Scorer of the first goal Kyle Edwards then found himself in the clear before rounding Martinez in the Texas goal, but his effort rebounded back off the outside of the post.

On the stroke of halftime Cavalry didn’t just double their lead but trebled it! On 44 minutes Jacob Evans cut back onto his right foot from the left side of the penalty area and bent an audacious effort into the far corner of the goal giving Martinez absolutely no chance. Then just one minute later Evans turned provider as he played a terrific ball in behind the Texas defence which striker Kyle Edwards ran onto and fired powerfully across goal into the far corner.

The second-half continued in similar fashion to the first as Cavalry added another three goals to their tally! The first of those goals came on the hour mark when a corner was played to the far post and Cyrus Harmon headed back across goal and as Texas United tried to clear away the danger they played it into the path of defender Christian Clarke and he rifled home from close range. The hosts didn’t take their foot off the gas and continued to come forward, and just ten minutes later Kyle Edwards completed his hattrick. The striker combined well with substitute Jesse Ortiz who played a terrific ball in behind the Texas defence and Edwards calmly slotted beyond Martinez.

Edwards wasn’t finished there though, as he added his fourth of the evening and Cavalry’s sixth of the match in the 92nd minute. Goalkeeper Chase Vosvick picked Edwards out perfectly from a goal kick and Edwards drove into the box before low across goal with his left foot and wrapping all three points up for the Cavalry.

Cavalry are back in action Tuesday at Texas United. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
