Centerville tops Leon to claim district championship

MADISONVILLE,Tex. (KBTX) - The Centerville Tigers beat the Leon Cougars 38-29 to claim the District 9 2A Division 1 title, Friday, at Madisonville's Mustang Stadium.

Leon took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a Payton Pruitt eight yard touchdown run, but the Tigers were undaunted. Centerville rode a 22 point offensive burst in the second quarter to stay in control of the game.

"Our kids came out tonight and did what they do. They played physical football against a very good team from Leon. We were fortunate to overcome some mistakes early and come away with a win," said Tiger Head Coach Kyle Hardee.

Centerville rounds out the regular season 7-3 and 5-0 in district play. The Tigers will play Cushing in Bi-District action next Friday in Crockett. Leon heads to the the post-season 7-3 with a 4-1 district ledger.
