BRYAN, Texas -- Classroom Champions, sponsored by American Momentum Bank.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Erin Nugent. The Bryan High School Senior has a 5.3 GPA, and is currently ranked number two in her class.
Lisa Prejean – Teacher
“I believe Erin's motivation is internal...Where she wants to be the that best she can be. But she's also motivated by the people around her. She wants to not only set a good example, but if someone is doing something and she thinks she can reach that same level. She strives to maintain or go above what other people are doing. So I think she focuses on how she can always make herself better.”
Erin is the Team Captain for the Lady Vikings soccer team. For her play on the soccer field, she has been named 2nd Team All-Region and Defender of the Year (in her District). Last season, she was voted Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year by her teammates. Outside of sports, Erin is the Vice President of the National Honor Society, an Officer in the Bryan High Choir, and she volunteers at St. Joseph's Cancer Clinic. And in her spare time, Erin really likes to read and play soccer.
Chris Gibson - Coach
“Leading by example; she does a great job. She'll come to me and she'll ask coach “Can I lead a practice?” And so I said “yeah sure!” And she'll design the practice, she'll set it up and she gets out there and it allows me to step back and just observe. And really watch while she's coaching. And the girls respond well to her. They don't stand back, they don't put their hands on their hips, they don't kind of shrug it off. They work hard for her, because she works hard.”
Erin Nugent - Student
“I think handling pressure it's mostly honestly impossible if you don't love what you are doing. And so I get genuine happiness and genuine energy just from being around the team. You know every single one of my teammates is just an amazing individual. And being able to spend time with them is super rewarding. So having fun playing soccer and having fun learning, which is one of my biggest passions, just doing two things I love makes the pressure completely bearable.”
After High School, Erin plans on attending Texas A&M University and will major in Biomedical Sciences.
Congratulations to Erin Nugent of Bryan High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
